The Assam government wants to trim the horns of rhinos to apparently save them from poaching. A committee is inviting opinions on the issue. The measure will be applicable to translocated rhinos in Assam and for the rhino population in Kaziranga National Park, Pobitora Wild Life Sanctuary and Manas National Park. Rhino lovers are protesting the move claiming that the trimming of horns would affect the biological growth of the animal and also impact behaviour. Rhino horns are in huge demand internationally and poachers are known to use AK 47s to bring them down.
