Death of crows, hens triggers panic in Odisha

The death of many crows and hens triggered panic among residents in Odisha a few days back. Keranga district  witnessed death of at least 30-40 crows everyday while more than 100 crows and hens died in Mayurbhanj district. Breakout of bird-flu is being apprehended from the symptoms noticed from the dead crows.

Ecologists apprehends that the situation may prove fatal if could not be controlled.  Migratory birds were seen lying dead a few days back in Chilika and the district authorities have sent the sample to laboratories for examination.  

“State government has sent samples of ten dead birds for test to High Security Disease Diagnostic Laboratory at Bhobal,” said Satyabrata Sahu, secretary of the state fishery & animial husbandry.

“We will not arrive at any conclusion unless we get the reports from laboratory,” said Sahu.
