Young kids selling 'sundal' (channa masala) on the Marina beach is a common sight in Chennai, but now they have got a filmy twist which is similar to the lives of slumdog millionaire's kids. Their lives will be portrayed in a movie called 'Marina' by award-winning director Pandiaraj.

Since the main story of the movie revolves around the lives of sundal boys, they themselves played the role in the movie. The film crew descended on the beach on Monday for the audio launch of the movie with a campaign to keep the beach clean.

Pandiaraj's debut movie 'Pasanga' got him national award. Marina is his third movie.

“I am thrilled to have featured in the movie,” said M Rajesh, a class 11 student. “I sell sundal here to support my parents. Such movies create awareness about our existence,” added Rajesh.

"We cleaned a part of the beach to inspire people who come to beach to keep it clean. Most of the sundal boys are school dropouts and take up such jobs because of abject poverty. Many a time I have felt guilty when I think about their lives and this has resulted in making of this movie," says director Pandiaraj.

"I am planning to educate such children and clear some of their debts, with the profit I get from this movie," added Pandiaraj.
