Arvind Kejriwal spent the least on his election while Vasundhra Raje spent the highest amount, according to an analysis of election expenditure incurred by candidates in the recent elections in five states, by the Association for Democratic Reforms. While Kejriwal spent Rs 3.99 lakhs on his election campaign, Raje’s expenditure was Rs 10.61 lakhs. That makes it 29% of the expenditure limit for the former and 66% for the latter. Raman Singh’s expenditure was capped at 51%, Shivraj Singh Chouhan averaged 62% from two constituencies, while Lalthanhawla who also contested from two constituencies averaged 51%. MLAs from Mizoram led the expenditure with 10% of them exhausting more than 80% of the expenditure limit. At Rs 8.46 lakhs, average spend in Chhattisgarh was highest, which is a surprise.
