Onion auctions at Lasalgaon market, one of the biggest in this district, resumed on Monday after a week amid tight police security, sources at the local Agriculture Produce Market Committee said.

Auctions could not be held here all through last week with farmers agitating for remunerative prices for onion and lifting of ban on its export.

Auctions were conducted this morning at between Rs 417 to Rs 1,114 per quintal depending upon the quality and size.

Auctions in other APMCs in the district, however, continued to be held during the week.

Meanwhile, at Pimpalgaon-Baswant, onions were auctioned this morning at between Rs 565 and Rs 1,100 per quintal, according to APMC sources there.

Although prices have looked up marginally, farmers in the district are not happy and have been demanding support price of at least Rs 1,500 per quintal.
