Is the Telangana decision political?
It is an old demand. Just that it has been taken at such a time when it may appear political. But please do not forget that the opposition is also on board. The Congress will not take such a big chance to win just 10 seats. That is opposition slander.

The GoM headed by Pranab Mukerjee had ruled out smaller states. How then do you explain Telangana?
What the GoM then believed was a decision of the government. This too is a government decision and I am sure all aspects have been taken into consideration before arriving at the decision. Similar demands in UP and Assam too are old. In western UP, people have to go to Allahabad for every little court hearing. The creation of Pachimanchal would have helped people living there. Chhattisgarh and Uttaranchal have shown what smaller states can do.

Do you believe that seeing the rate of growth in smaller states, bigger states now need to streamline their administration?
This is my individual view but apart from the Congress, other regional parties are also demanding smaller states. Mayawati wants UP carved up and Ajit Singh wants a separate state in west UP. Maybe these are their individual views but somewhere along the line, they reflect public sentiment and that sentiment cannot be crushed.
