Adult comedies - as a genre - are totally fine and acceptable and when well made, hugely enjoyable! However it demands subtlety, a clever and informed mind capable of using naughtiness and mischief, as cinematic metaphors through dialogue, happenings, visuals, without being overt, vulgar or openly obscene. Bollywood, forever married to catering to the lowest common denominator (where comedies are concerned) hits a new low with Grand Masti!

Extending the 2004 Masti narrative, which plays out with three (randy?) married guys wanting some action on the side since their wives have already put a lid on the deed of darkness, the sequel takes it to a new level! The three leading men, Vivek, Ritesh and Aftab, desperate, horny and hungry gasp-pant dudes, really turn on the heat taking the action to a new, cheap, sadak-chhaap low! Replacing the nudge and wink sexual innuendos of the earlier film, obscene close-ups of erections and flesh-flash blitz the screen, making you scream STOP after a while!

Pity is that the fine comic flair displayed - in flashes - by Aftab and Ritesh is hijacked by a screenplay full of populist vulgarities. Cheap references to body parts, recycling from earlier version and lifts from Austin Powers and Ace Ventura however has not come in the way of zooming the BO collections to Rs.76 crores in its second week overtaking 26, Satyagraha, Raanjhana and Once upon a time... a very sad commentary on public taste. Oh, the actresses (bimbos?) in the film and their contributions? Minimalistic would be an understatement! Its toilet humour at its flush-able best - but hey, you’ll be amazed at the amount of people crazy about enjoying crap!!
