It is a classic tale – girl loves boy, boy loves girl but they can't marry because their families do not agree. However, in this case, the tale has a twist – the families in question are the AIADMK and the Congress. The daughter of AIADMK party's parliamentary chief Thambidurai, has submitted the petition asking Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's blessings for her marriage to the son of a senior congress leader C.Gnanasekharan about which her father is very much reluctant to ask the Chief minister.

26 year old Laasya fell in love with Naveen, the son of C.Gnanasekaran, four year ago when they studied medicine in Sriramachandra Medical college in Chennai. Naveen works as an assistant professor of radiology in college, where Laasya is persuing he MD in the same department.

It all started when Dr. Naveen, a gold medalist in MBBS, went to take classes for MBBS students when he was doing his MD in Radiology in the same college. “Laasya was a bright student. She asked so many questions. It came to our knowledge that we are distant relatives. So we started to develop a liking for each. She became close to our family also. Being an only son in my family, my mother also like her very much. I can say ours is both a love and arranged relationship” says Dr.Naveen to TSI.

While not ecstatic over his daughter's choice of mate, Gnanasekaran agreed to consider the prospect of the to getting married once her studies were over. True to his words, the two got engaged in November 2010. However, since then, the AIADMK minister seems to be dragging his feet over the affair.

''Thambidurai was saying that the marriage can be arranged after their studies are over. Naveen has finished his MD and is Assistant Professor in the college. Now Laasya is also finishing her MD. Why should the youngsters wait for the marriage? I think may be Thambidurai is dragging his feet due to political differences” said Gnanasekaran to TSI. Thambidurai was not available for comments.

Finally Laasya, who has met Jayalalitha in some occasions (she has met her recently when she went abroad for a course in Harvard), went to the residence of the Chief Minister and submitted a letter explaining her situation and asked for her date for the marriage. Naveen now works in the college now as Asst professor of radiology in the college where now Laasya is doing her MD in same department.
