The  Maharashtra government has rolled out India’s first ever blood-on-call facility called as Jivan Amrut Seva, where in you can call 104, a toll-free number, in case blood requirement. The facility would send a person to collect the patient’s blood sample and get it processed at the nearest blood bank. Post this, the patient would be issued the requisite amount of blood bags as low as at Rs 450 a bag. State health minister Suresh Shetty also signaled that private hospitals would have to face serious consequences if they deny patients the blood-on-call facility. This comes as many private hospitals refuse to accept blood sourced from places other than their own blood banks, in the event forcing the patients to buy blood bags at hefty rates and also demanding blood replacement.
