After the intervention of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Left Front leaders and members of Kendriya Netaji Janmotsav Committee collectively garlanded the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 115th birth anniversary at 12:15 pm in Kolkata on Monday.

Earlier, the LF leaders and Kendriya Netaji Janmotsav committee were told to garland the  statue only after the official programme, which was scheduled to take place between 1.15 pm to 3.30 pm.

The announcement by the CM had clearly upset the Left Front leaders and members of Kendriya Netaji Janmotsav Committee as they garlanded the Netaji's statue at 12:15 pm every year.

Left Front chairman Biman Bose said the Left leaders had been told that they would be allowed to garland the statue Monday after 1.45 p.m.

"But the timing of Netaji's birthday is 12.15 p.m. Every year we garlanded the statute at 12.15 after chief minister paid his/her respects," he said.

Earlier, Mamata had requested Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh  to declare January 23 as ‘Desh Prem Divas’ and a ‘National Holiday’.  All India Forward Block (AIFB) has also been demanding for declaration of January 23 as Desh Prem Divas for a long time.
