After the victory of Ghogalgaon villagers of Madhya Pradesh’ Khandwa district against the government’s decision to increase water level of Omkareshwar dam, the focus has now shifted to Harda where a similar protest is going on for the last 14 days.

More than 50 villagers have been protesting in neck deep water to press the government to bring down the water level in the Indira Sagar Dam and rehabilitation of displaced people.

The BJP government has increased the water level in the dam to 262 meters which may submerge 19 villages. The Jal Satyagrahis want the government to bring down the water level to 260 meters.

On Monday, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan met the people affected by Omkareshwar dam and Indira Sagar dam but he didn’t take any stand on Indira Sagar dam protest leaving protestors red-faced.

Chouhan said, “There is no such issue with the Indira Sagar dam case which has to be reconsidered.”

It is worth mentioning here that BJP’s State working committee will meet in Khandwa on Tuesday and the party was worried of the fact that the meeting could face protest from the people. It is being said that to avoid any such unusual situation government agreed to the demands of the Omkareshwar dam affected people and rejected the demands of Indira Sagar dam protestors.
