IIHS, SASC announce launch of India Urban conference at Yale

The Indian Institute of Human Settlements (IIHS), Janaagraha and South Asian Studies Council today announced the launch of 'India Urban Conference' (IUC),2011 at Yale University in the US.

The conference aims to bring to the fore key challenges India faces at the city, state and central levels in addressing problems relating to urbanisation.

"IUC 2011 series seeks to enable policy making and promote social action through dialogue between stakeholders at the city, state and central levels," Janaagraha co-founder Ramesh Ramanathan said here.

The conference also aims to use evidence and experience from cities and sites of innovation and interrogate themes relating to land, infrastructure, urban water, health, education and governance among others, he added.

"IUC is a unique platform that will bring together a range of stakeholders to debate urban issues in the context of verifiable data," Ramanathan said.

It will also create a platform for India's youth to help shape India's urban future through 'san-kranti', a nationwide student challenge, he said.
