The X-Game International Open Speed Climbing Competition 2011 concluded on Monday with Devyatrikov Artyom of Kazakhstan winning the championship. The competition  began from November 27 at Sangai International Speed Climbing Wall-MMTA, Hapta Kangjeibung, Palace Compound, Imphal.

Devyatrikov Artyom of Kazakhstan, Ismu Nugroho Hadinegoro of Indonesia and Kovalyev Roman of Kazakhstan won the top three positions respectively. Artyom reached the top in just 19.5 seconds,  Hadinegoro hit the buzzer in 21.98 seconds. Roman won the third place by reaching the top in 28.98 seconds.

China's Zhang Ning won the fourth place while Shivalinga of India secured the fifth place. Another Indian K Surjit won the sixth place.

The competition of such a magnitude was held in Manipur for the first time. It was organised to coincide with the ongoing 10-day long Manipur Sangai Festival, 2011. The climbing wall was  made from Bamboo plyboards instead of fibre glass or natural rock which are used to construct the traditional wall. The bamboo wall is 55 feet tall with 16 feet width. It has compressed layers of chemically treated bamboo splits.

The success of the event is a landmark in the history of speed climbing sport, said officials of MMTA. The championship was organised by Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) in partnership with Indian Mountaineering  Foundation (IMF), the apex body of Mountaineering and Sports Climbing in India.
