Delhi: BJP tops criminal list

An analysis of the self sworn affidavits of796 (from a total of 810) candidates in the fray for the Delhi Assembly polls has revealed that 129 or 16% have declared criminal cases against them, up from the 14% who contested the elections in 2008. According to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), of these, 93 have declared serious criminal cases including attempt to murder, robbery, dacoity and crime against women. BJP leads the list of the tainted with 31 candidates, the Congress has 15, 14 come from the BSP while the AAP has five with criminal cases to their names. While the number of candidates with criminal cases has gone down for all parties, for the BJP the number has gone up from 35% in 2008 to 46% in 2013. Who’s talking about crime and politics now?
