AIUDF leader Sirajuddin Ajmal said, “There is no permanent friend or foe in politics. We will enter into an alliance for sure but it will be for the benefit of people of the state. We are ready to join hands with any political party except BJP. We will ensure that at the time of alliance, the party's motto and principle remain intact.

In the last Assembly election the party managed to get the support of minorities in the state and won 18 seats which enabled it to introduce as the second biggest party in the state.

Earlier, during campaigning for the Assembly election, the party supremo Badruddin Ajmal went on to say that it would never unite with Congress or BJP.

In the wake of the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, AICC leaders have also shown interest in this new alliance to attract muslim votes of minority section. According to sources, Assam Congress Party’s minority leaders were shocked by reports of Ajmal’s growing influence in AICC.

According to an AICC leader,  Badruddin Ajmal has considerable influence in UP among the minorities and he may campaign for the Congress party in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Recently, AIUDF introduced itself as a national party and Badruddin revealed that it would contest assembly elections all across the country in order to protect the rights of minorities.

Meanwhile, the All Assam Congress Committee President Bhubaneswar Kalita says, “We have no such information of any such alliance. But we will follow the advice and order of the AICC.”
