Companies scrimp on CSR

Only one in four companies is spending the required 2 per cent of their net profit on CSR-related activities as required by the Companies Act 2013, according to a study by Deloitte India. In 2011-12, 27 percent of the 91 top companies spent 2 per cent, 37 percent companies spent between one and two per cent, while the remaining spent less than one percent on CSR activities. The top causes for CSR spending are education, environment, health care, infrastructure, livelihood, and support to vulnerable groups.  But is it actually happening?
