In an announcement that could rattle the West, People’s Republic of China has declared that it is already building a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier that would rival the best and the biggest that the US presently has. This announcement is being seen as a major shot in the arm of China. A hitherto less known website qianzhan.com cited a senior source in People’s Liberation Army and claimed that the country is constructing a 110,000-ton aircraft carrier, which will be pushed to service by the year 2020.“By that time, China will be able to confront the most advanced US carrier-based fighter jets in high sea,” said the Chinese-language article. This warship will be far bigger than the present Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning, a refitted Soviet-era craft that China has purchased from Ukraine.
