Some drama and a lot of consensus later, the Aam Aadmi Party is set to form the government in Delhi with additional support of eight Congress MLAs. The social media had a field day punning on the two parties symbols with the most circulated witticism being about how the jhaadu (broom) needed a hath (hand) to hold it. The decision to form the government was taken after a hectic round of public meetings and online responses. Out of 280 public meetings held last week, 257 voted in favor of government formation. Over 74 percent of 265,996 online responses supported this measure. Party leader Arvind Kejriwal has promised that his party men will remain bereft of common symbols of power like the lal batti and has also eschewed the offer of police protection. Given the party’s stand against corruption, corporate India has been silent on the developments while cynics have already begun questioning the longevity of the government. Some believe that the party will harm itself the most.
