Enthused by the overwhelming response from the Bengalese in Uttar Pradesh, particularly in Bengali-dominated Mathura, Benaras and Kanpur; the All India Trinamool Congress is now getting ready to contest ensuing municipal corporation elections in Delhi, sources said.
Sources close to top TMC leadership further said, “Party expects to get the Bengali community in its fold. Change in Bengal politics has paved the way.”
Elections to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is scheduled for April this year.
A senior TMC leader in Kolkata told TSI that state election commission has divided Delhi in three segments-East Delhi, North Delhi and South Delhi, for the MCD elections.
The leader also said that TMC is in a position to bag a few seats like Chittranjan Park, Karol Bagh, Pahargunj and Laxmi Nagar in trans-Yamuna area. All these seats are Bengali-dominated.
Union minister for state Sultan Ahmed and Member of Parliament Kakali Ghosh Dastidar are handling organizational responsibilities in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh polls.
According to these leaders, party should also try its luck in Lucknow Municipal election and stabilize its base as the traditional Bengali Community of Lucknow has a good number of voters, which can be win over easily with the development in West Bengal.
TMC is contesting many seats in UP. Candidates in UP have expected that Mamata Banerjee would take out some time to address at least a rally in their support.
The party leaders expect to bag at least 5 to 9 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
