Sukhbir Singh Badal

Shiromani Akali Dal leader and Deputy Punjab CM Sukhbir Singh Badal is contesting from Faridkot constituency. In last assembly elections, Shiromani Akali Dal won 48 of the 117 seats, the credit for which was given to Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Parkash Singh Badal

Chief Minister of the state for four times, he is the most powerful Shiromani Akali Dal leader. Seeking re-election from Lambi, the constituency from where he has been getting elected since 1997, he joined the election fray for the first time in 1957 and lost only in 1962 from Harcharan Singh Brar of the Congress in Gidderbaha.

Manpreet Singh Badal

London educated estranged nephew of Parkash Singh Badal who quit as the state Finance Minister to float his Peoples Party of Punjab which has entered into alliance with the two Communist parties and the Akali Dal (Longowal). He is contesting from two constituencies- Gidderbaha and Maur.

Capt. Amarinder Singh

Former chief minister and presently the state Congress chief who is in fray from Patiala. The scion of the Patiala royal family had won from this seat in the last election by a massive margin. He joined Akali Dal in protest against Operation Bluestar. Denied ticket in 1997, he returned to the Congress.

Rajinder Kaur Bhattal

Leader of the Congress Legislature Party and the former chief minister of the state, she is seeking re-election from Lehragaga. She was Deputy Chief Minister in the Amarinder government. She is also the former state Congress chief.

Bibi Jagir Kaur

The former president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, she is contesting from Bholath as the Akali Dal candidate. She faces the charges of her daughter’s murder.

Raninder Singh

Popularly known as Tikkuji, son of Capt. Amarinder Singh, he is the Congress candidate from Samana. The announcement of ticket to him led to revolt by Amarinder’s brother Malvinder Singh who joined the Akali Dal.

PS Gill

He is the former Director General of Police who has been fielded by the Akali Dal from Moga causing heartburn among the traditional Akali leaders. He has been handpicked by Sukhbir Singh Badal who had appointed him as Advisor (Home) after his retirement.

Navjot Kaur Sidhu

A doctor by profession, she is the wife of former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, elected to the Lok Sabha from Amritsar. Navjot Kaur is the BJP candidate from Amritsar East.

Ashwani Sharma

He is the youngest Punjab BJP president and is readying up to fight his maiden entry into the Punjab Assembly. He will be fighting to retain the Pathankot constituency seat for his party.
